The essentials
- Around 100 km from PUJ: reckon on 1 h 30 to 1 h 50 depending on the resort.
- We sell this route in the minivan and the Suburban.
- The road is good nearly all the way; the final stretch is slower.
- There is little outside the resort: plan any outings in advance.
Miches is the coast that Punta Cana was thirty years ago: a long bay between the Cordillera Oriental and the Atlantic, with a fishing town, sand without rented umbrellas and, recently, a couple of large resorts. It is the fastest-changing destination in the Dominican Republic, and the one most people ask about without being sure where it is.
Where it is and how long it takes
Miches sits on the north coast of El Seibo province, north-west of Punta Cana airport. That is roughly 100 kilometres by road. In normal conditions the run takes between an hour and a half and an hour and fifty minutes, depending on where along the bay you are going: Playa Esmeralda is a little further out than the town.
What the drive is like
The route leaves the airport and picks up the Boulevard Turístico del Este, the modern road linking the tourist zone to the north. It is well-surfaced two-way road with fast sections. The end, dropping toward the bay, is narrower and winding: that is where the chauffeur eases off, particularly at night or in rain. It is not a difficult stretch, but it is not driven at the same speed as the rest.
The fare from the airport
| Drop-off | from |
|---|---|
| MichesHyundai H1 — Chevrolet Suburban | $140 – $180 |
We sell Miches in two vehicles: the Hyundai H1 minivan, up to 6 passengers, and the Chevrolet Suburban, up to 5. For larger parties, message us on WhatsApp and we will quote on the numbers and the luggage.
What to plan around
- 1Treat the transfer as part of the day, not an errand: it is a good ninety minutes.
- 2A night arrival is fine; the road is driven all the same, just more slowly.
- 3For the return, subtract the drive and your check-in window from the flight time, and add margin.
- 4Outside the resort the options are limited. Excursions get booked, not improvised.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Miches worth it, or is Punta Cana better?
- It depends what you want. Miches has a long beach and very few people, but almost nothing outside the hotel. Bávaro is the opposite. If it is your first time in the country and you want to eat out, Bávaro will give you less road.
- Is there a surcharge for a late-night arrival?
- No. We apply no night surcharge on any route, and Miches is no exception.
- Can you collect us in Miches for the return to the airport?
- Yes, the route works both ways at the same price. Booking both legs together fixes the departure time from the start.
- What about Bávaro or Uvero Alto to Miches?
- We do not publish a fare for those yet. Message us on WhatsApp with the pick-up, date and passenger count and we will give you a fixed price before you book.
